I was blessed with the opportunity to go to Guatemala on a missions trip with my church. It was one of the greatest experiences of my lifetime. We were able to work with students in two different villages, and it was a blast being able to interact with them and just be apart of their community. The kids were excited to see us and play with us, but I was equally, if not more, excited. Although there was a language barrier, it did not stop the fun. I taught the kids some English while they also taught me some Spanish. These villages have gone through hard times and are still dealing with the aftermath of war. Poverty, malnutrition, violence, and issues with education, are very common throughout all of Guatemala. It is difficult for someone from the outside to really understand all the issues that Guatemala deals with, without experiencing it first hand. It hurts to see what those people have to deal with on the daily, but it does not seem to affect their Christianity or attitude. God is working in these communities and I have learned so much from the people of these villages. I really did not know what to expect when I first committed to going to Guatemala, but what I have experienced is amazing and will forever be life changing. I am so grateful for this experience and I’m very excited to be able to there again.
